Punjab Shares New Details About Grade 8 Board Exams

According to a report by a private news channel, the Punjab School Education Department has decided that Grade 8 board examinations will be conducted only in government schools, starting next academic year.

For private schools, appearing in the board exam will be optional. The exams will be conducted under the supervision of the Punjab Education, Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority (PECTAA).

The department is expected to release the complete plan within the next 20 days, including subject lists, marks distribution, and details regarding the secure delivery of question papers to examination centers.

The board exams are tentatively scheduled for February or March 2026.

As reported, the government also intends to introduce a performance-based incentive model, under which schools delivering strong results may receive rewards, while those with poor outcomes could face administrative action.

  • The role of ministry of education/school education department should have been to provide guidelines and facilities to deliver quality education across the board throughout the province. However, unfortunately, the ministry instead of performing its due role, is only focusing on allowing undue vacations in the schools again and again which is not only disrupting the educational activities but also spoiling the students by allowing them to indulge in unhealthy and futile activities. It is requested to cancel the notification regarding extension in summer vacations and order to ensure provision of uninterrupted electricity, cold water and shortened study hours.
