The district police of Mirpur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, will soon launch a phased Safe City project aimed at ensuring foolproof safety for the public, SSP Khurram Iqbal announced on Monday.
Speaking at the Kashmir Press Club, the newly appointed SSP said the project would introduce modern surveillance systems, including CCTV cameras at key locations across the district, to monitor and curb criminal activity.
Currently, 30 cameras are installed in the city, but only six are operational. Repairs are underway to restore functionality. Iqbal also revealed plans to establish a dedicated women’s police station, form community policing units, and create liaison committees to foster trust between police and citizens.
The SSP warned that drug peddlers, cybercriminals, and those using fake IDs to harm others would face strict legal action. He stressed that any police officer found protecting criminals would be dealt with severely.
Iqbal urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity, assuring that his office remains open to the public. He also announced work on a strategy to address traffic issues and expressed hope for continued cooperation from the media to strengthen public safety.
