The Transport Department has announced a reduction in public transport fares by up to 5%. Orders have been issued to regional transport authorities to implement the revised fares, resulting in reductions ranging from Rs. 50 to Rs. 300 across various routes.
The fare from Lahore to Sargodha has been lowered by Rs. 50 to Rs. 1,060, while the Lahore to Islamabad route now costs Rs. 1,950 after a Rs. 100 reduction. Similarly, fares for Lahore to Peshawar, Rahim Yar Khan, Hyderabad, and Karachi have been reduced by Rs. 120, Rs. 140, Rs. 300, and Rs. 320, respectively.
This reduction in transport fares came in response to the recent drop of petrol prices. Recently, the Finance Division announced a notable reduction of Rs. 12.84 per litre in the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) for the upcoming fortnight, while petrol prices will remain unchanged.
According to Rana Mohsin, Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority Lahore, the new fares, reflecting a 5% decrease due to a Rs. 12.84 drop in diesel prices, will take effect starting today.
