Pakistan to Send First Astronaut to Space Next Year

Pakistan is preparing to send its first astronauts into space, with the federal minister for planning, Ahsan Iqbal, confirming that the program is set to launch next year.

The initiative is a collaboration between Pakistan’s Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) and China’s manned space agency under a human spaceflight program.

Two Pakistani candidates will undergo training at China’s astronaut center, with one eventually selected as a scientific payload specialist. The selection process began this year and is expected to conclude by 2026. Following completion, the chosen astronaut will travel to China’s space station.

During the mission, the astronaut will conduct experiments across multiple fields, including biology, medical sciences, fluid mechanics, materials research, environmental studies, and astronomy.

Minister Iqbal emphasized the significance of the program, stating that Pakistan is committed to sending its first astronaut to the Chinese space station by 2026, marking a major milestone in the country’s space exploration efforts.
