The federal government has set the Diyat (compensation for loss of life, or “blood money”) amount at Rs. 9.83 million for the 2025-26 financial year.
A notification from the Finance Division (Internal Finance Wing) on Monday stated that, as per sub-section (2) of Section 323 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), the Diyat value has been fixed at Rs. 9,828,670, which equals 30,630 grams of silver.
The PPC requires that the Diyat amount be updated annually according to the current silver market rate and is paid to the legal heirs of the victim.
This year’s amount is higher than last year’s, reflecting an increase in silver prices.
The new figure is mandatory for courts and relevant institutions handling Diyat cases during the 2025-26 fiscal year.
