The Punjab government has made it mandatory for educational institutions to install waste segregation bins.
Instructions have been issued to ensure proper waste management across schools, colleges, and universities. Green bins will be designated for biodegradable and organic waste, blue bins for recyclable materials such as paper, plastic, metal, and glass, while black or grey bins will be used for non-recyclable waste.
Students, teachers, and visitors will be guided by the bin colors to properly dispose of waste. Teams from the Punjab Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will monitor waste segregation practices in institutions. Schools and colleges that comply with the system will be awarded certificates.
These certificates will serve as recognition of the institution’s contribution toward environmental sustainability.
