This New EV Can Go from Karachi to Islamabad Without a Refill

Dongfeng has launched the Aeolus L8, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) powered by the company’s Mach Electric Hybrid system. The setup includes a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine, an electric motor, and a 30.3 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, delivering a combined output of 355 horsepower.

Range and Testing

Under CLTC standards, the Aeolus L8 offers two official all-electric driving ranges: 126 kilometers and 185 kilometers, depending on configuration. In independent testing conducted by the China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC), the vehicle achieved an all-electric range of 248 kilometers and a total driving range of 2,245 kilometers, placing it among the longest-range plug-in hybrids available.

Charging and Efficiency

The Aeolus L8 recorded a fuel efficiency of approximately 41.66 kilometers per liter in CATARC tests. The vehicle supports 3C fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 20% to 80% in around 18 minutes, under optimal conditions.

According to official specifications, the vehicle supports 28 Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) functions. These include:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane keeping assist
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Parking assistance

Safety equipment includes six airbags and a digital rearview mirror. The cabin features a digital interface supported by a built-in voice assistant, powered by AI models from DeepSeek and ByteDance’s Doubao.

Dongfeng plans to introduce the Aeolus L8 in international markets, including the Middle East and South America. Originally launched under the Fengshen brand in 2009, the Aeolus division now offers both sedans and SUVs tailored for general consumers.

Dongfeng has also announced its intention to release solid-state battery electric vehicles by 2026, targeting ranges of over 1,000 kilometers and improved battery safety.

  • After EV debacle…. Chinese auto manufacturers are now rushing to hybrids, most probably smaller (1.5L) turbocharged petrol engine, either directly or indirectly coupled (range extender) with generator !

So DON’T fall in to EV / PHEV trap.

    • Ok prove it.
Where is the trap ? Where is the debacle? They make cars we want . If anything blame your govt for taxing these cars too much.

Chinese can create cars but you can’t even make a cycle.

      • Buy it, I swear it belongs to junkyard after 5 years of use, unlike toyota or honda or any other vehicle except some koreans (specially Hyundai, due to its electronic failure) and chinese (all of em), they never die, you spend money on labor and parts, and they keep running forever, whereas chinese junk is just like a disposable item, have some research on it, unless you buy it, use it and sell it to next one after year or two

        • Prove it . Waiting

          Site ncap test results
Site actual evidence of your claim
          Site independent reports
Site actual engineer review from the schematics

Noticed you swore but didn’t Site proof.

  • You are forgetting few things.

    1. Pricing which is too high so no one can afford it.
    2. If it’s an ev why need fuel ? It’s a hybrid
    3. While a great claim. Even if it could go half the distance , it will be an achievement. But without affordable pricing, there is no point

    • In Pakistan people cant even afford Suzuki alto. Its just because the factories belongs to the elite corrupts class sitting at the assemblies, they make millions out of one car selling. they neither imports it, even if so then charge a hefty custom duty and import duties. Life of common citizen is miserable at the hands of every government.

  • It’s a great achievement but price should be affordable as it would be the richest dream.a middle class person is so away to buy these type of vehicles.it should be launched of -corse.here is the need of other vehicles which should be the range of middle class family because here in Pakistan middle class family is the great purchaser of vehicles not rich people.

    • your tax policy is not a problem of Chinese companies. Raise your voice against high tax policies or shut up. almost half the price goes to taxes. you want them to sell you cars for losses?

  • Nice but if it’s priced 1 Crore plus than very few will buy . Big market is in 30 ( alto ) to 50 ( Yaris) lac

    • all imports are priced in dollars not rupees, so its not their problem if you can’t afford it in rupees. and you are seriously comparing this car to alto tin dabba and yaris?

      • it’s definitely their problem when they invest millions of dollars setting up assembly plants and can’t sell cars .Flooding market with so many brands all priced above 1 Crore , none of them will not make any money

  • Better it would have been if the reporter had given the market price of this elec vehicle. Price is always a central part of the news story.

  • Appreciate your dedication and love to make Pakistan great country.
Very informative and UpTo date info.
    Wishing you success and happiness

  • بہترین لیکن قیمت زیادہ ہوتو بہت فائدہ نہیں مناسب قیمت ہو تواچھی ہے

  • False. This is NOT an EV. How do you people post this garbage? Don’t you have an editorial team that sees this?

  • Is it being launched in Pakistan? If not, then please don’t mislead public for the sake of publishing one new article.
