To enhance the safety and privacy of female students, the Punjab Safe City Authority has begun installing emergency “pink buttons” in educational institutions, reported 24NewsHD on Thursday.
In the first phase, 450 colleges across the province will be equipped with these devices. Lahore will have 39 installations, followed by 35 in Rawalpindi, 31 in Faisalabad, 24 in Gujranwala, 22 in Sialkot, 19 in Sargodha, and 15 in Multan. Other districts, including Gujrat, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sheikhupura, Jhang, and Muzaffargarh, are also part of the rollout, with the number of devices varying between six and 15 per district.
Officials confirmed that after completion in colleges, the project will be extended to high schools as well.
In addition, pink buttons have already been installed at 202 public locations across 13 districts, with the highest number — 122 — in Lahore. Several other districts, including Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Okara, Sahiwal, Jhang, Gujrat, Attock, Murree, Muzaffargarh, DG Khan, Mianwali, and Jhelum, have also received installations.
The feature allows women to immediately connect with the police emergency helpline, even without access to a mobile phone.
