How to Correct a Parent’s Name on Your CNIC: Guide

Errors in a parent’s name on the Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) can cause problems in official records, banking, property documents, and even travel. To resolve this, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has laid out a process to make corrections simple and traceable.

The correction process involves biometric verification, official review, and supporting testimony from family members if needed. Applicants can choose between normal and urgent processing, depending on how quickly they need the updated CNIC.

Step-by-Step Guide

1. Visit NADRA Registration Center (NRC): Collect a token and wait for your turn.

2. Biometric Verification: Your identity will be confirmed through fingerprints.

3. Submit Correction Request: Provide both the incorrect and correct versions of your parent’s name with accurate spellings.

4. Data Verification: An officer will review details. You may be asked for a fresh photo and signature.

5. Form Submission: Hand over the completed form to the NRC in charge.

6. Fee Payment: Pay the applicable fee, either standard or urgent.

7. Tracking Slip: Receive a slip to track your CNIC status.

8. Collection: Once processed, NADRA will notify you. Return with the slip to collect the corrected CNIC.

Documents & Testimonies Needed

  • If the parent is alive: Biometric verification of the parent whose name is being corrected.
  • If Parent is Deceased:
    • Testimony of one sibling whose CNIC shows the correct parental name.
    • If both parents are deceased, testimony of two siblings is required.
