Authorities in Lahore have decided to deploy drone technology to control traffic congestion and provide rapid response to traffic jams across the city.
The initiative, led by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, aims to improve monitoring on the city’s busiest roads and ensure smoother traffic flow.
According to officials, the use of drones for traffic management will begin in late September. In the initial phase, ten drones equipped with cameras will be used to monitor traffic hotspots where jams frequently occur.
The live feed from these drones will be linked to traffic wardens’ LTE handsets, allowing them to respond immediately and reach the site of congestion in time to clear blockages.
Officials stated that the real-time aerial monitoring will help reduce delays and ease the pressure on road users. They also added that the number of drones will be gradually increased to expand coverage across Lahore.
