CDA Moves to Raise Water and Sewerage Charges in Islamabad

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has decided to increase water and sewerage charges for residents of Islamabad, marking the first hike since 2017-18.

According to the decision approved by the CDA Board, water charges for a ten-marla house are currently Rs. 280 per month, while a five-marla house pays Rs. 192 per month. However, the Authority is now preparing to implement a minimum monthly bill of Rs. 500 for a five-marla house.

The CDA stated that its annual income stands at Rs 4 million, while its yearly expenses have reached Rs. 4 billion, revising charges necessary. It has also been proposed that water and sewerage bills will now be collected on a monthly basis instead of the current system.

To ensure public participation, a public hearing on the proposed amendments will take place on September 3 at the Convention Center, Islamabad, from 10 am to 2 pm. Citizens have been invited to attend the session and share their feedback or objections.

The announcement was made through a public notice issued by the CDA Water Directorate.

  • Shortage in supply of potable water has made the lives miserable in Islamabad. No improvement in infrastructure is expected in near future. In such a scenario, enhancement in water charges will be viewed as cruelty of government of Pakistan. Reduction in water supply coupled with expired infrastructure don’t allow increase in water charges.

  • Presently inadequate supply of water has made the life of inhabitants measurable. The kachi abadies in every sector, in particular, ” maera abadi” (G-12) illegally occupied have further elevated this issue. The present water supply resources of CDA are not sufficient at all. Around 50% of houses in G sectors have their own boaring system to cater their daily needs of water. Under the present situation, the proposed increase in water charges will be highly unjustified rather a cruel action.

  • لوٹ مچی ہے لوٹ۔ تم بھی لوٹو ہم بھی لوٹیں کسی پیچھے کیوں رہے

  • For 200 Rupees a month people expect good infrastructure and sufficient water supply. CDA should increase the charges to 1000PKR month minimum and work on improving the infrastructure with the funds.

  • Electricity charges hikes itni zada barh chuki , gass bills, taxes , salary tax is ko niklwany k tax even though every transaction process tax ab water charges then where is govt employee survive booht zulm h ye .
