The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has suspended the requirement for taxpayers to log in to the “IRIS” system using a QR code.
The FBR communicated this decision to the Federal Tax Ombudsman (FTO) Regional Secretariat in Peshawar to address a complaint filed against the board.
According to a tax expert, the complaint was related to the IRIS login through QR code. It was clarified that the QR code requirement has been suspended, and the complaint appears to be resolved.
In its letter to the FTO Regional Secretariat Peshawar, the FBR confirmed that the requirement to log in to IRIS via QR code has now been suspended.

I am convinced that we are not normal at all. In the first place, why QR code for filing a return? QR code otherwise is a torture. Rather than simplifying things, we complicate them in the name of technology. Why?
Bro … There were some security concerns due unauthorized use of taxpayer login to file sales tax returns by hackers with fake sales tax invoice during the period of jul,2024 to Feb, 2025 worth billions of tax involved in order to curb this … QR codes were bough in … However, now digital invoicing has been mandatory for all sales tax payers till 01.12.2025 so the requirement of QR Codes will be randred redundant
I came across a rumor that tax accounts of users who have not updated their passwords within 60 days are being banned. Could anybody please confirm whether this information is correct?
