The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert, warning of intense rainfall across various districts of Punjab and Azad Kashmir over the next 12 to 24 hours.
According to the alert, heavy downpours are expected in Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Kasur, Jhelum, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Hafizabad, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, and Pakpattan. These rains may trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas and cause streams and drains to overflow.
In the hilly regions of Kashmir, including Neelum Valley, Bagh, Kotli, Rawalakot, Muzaffarabad, and Haveli, intermittent rainfall is forecast during the same period, raising the risk of landslides and flash floods. The NDMA has cautioned that heavy water flow in mountain streams could disrupt road networks and traffic movement.
A separate alert has already been issued regarding the rising water levels in the Sutlej River and the possibility of flooding. In response, large-scale evacuation operations are underway in nearby areas. The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), Rescue 1122 teams, and Pakistan Army engineers are actively engaged in relief and rescue measures.
Authorities have advised the public to stay away from rivers, streams, and vulnerable low-lying zones, avoid unnecessary travel, and remain updated through TV, radio, mobile alerts, and the NDMA’s Disaster Alert App.
