Electricity consumers may get relief in their bills as the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) will today hear a petition filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) seeking a reduction of Rs. 1.69 per unit in power tariff under the fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for July.
According to the petition, electricity generation in July stood at 14.123 billion units, of which 13.666 billion units were delivered to distribution companies.
The average cost of power generation for the month was Rs. 8.18 per unit, the CPPA noted.
The CPPA data showed that:
- Hydropower contributed the largest share at 40.13% of generation.
- Local coal accounted for 10.64%, while imported coal contributed 8.07%.
- Gas-based generation made up 7.74%, and LNG-based generation contributed 17.26%.
- Nuclear fuel provided around 9% of the power mix.
The petition argued that lower fuel costs during July justify a reduction in tariff, which, if approved by NEPRA, will be passed on to consumers in upcoming bills.
A final decision will be made by NEPRA after completing the hearing process.
