Pakistan’s Local Mobile Manufacturing Surged by 123% in July

As per the latest data released by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), local mobile companies manufactured/assembled 3.59 million units during July 2025, up 123% YoY and 64% MoM. This growth is attributable to low base effects.

According to a report by Topline Research, the year-on-year growth stems from a low base in July 2024, when sales declined due to excessive pre-buying in June 2024 ahead of expected changes in the budget. Similarly, the monthly growth is driven by a low base in June 2025, when supply chain disruptions amid regional conflicts reduced volumes to 2.19 million units.

During July 2025, locally manufactured/assembled mobile phone sales stood at 17.83 million units, down 6% YoY. Of the 17.83 million locally assembled mobile phones in July, 52% (9.36 million units) were 2G phones, while the remaining 48% (8.47 million units) were smartphones.

Pakistan fulfilled 95% of its mobile phone demand through local manufacturing/assembly during July.

Top 10 locally assembled brands in July include VGO Tel (2.12 million units), followed by Infinix (2.01 million units), Itel (1.53 million units), Vivo (1.38 million units), Xiaomi (1.04 million units), Samsung (0.93 million units), Tecno (0.89 million units), Q Mobile (0.72 million units), G’Five (0.7 million units), and Nokia (0.65 million units).

Going forward, mobile phone sales are expected to grow by 7-8% YoY over the next 12 months, as base effects have now normalized and overall inflation remains on the lower side. In addition, brands such as Samsung and Xiaomi typically launch new smartphone models around September every year, which is likely to further support demand in the coming months.

Within the listed space, Airlink Communication (AIRLINK) and Lucky Cement (LUCK) stand to benefit from rising demand, as their locally assembled brands like Tecno, Xiaomi, and Samsung rank among the top 10 in Pakistan.

  • If these mobiles cant be exported then it means they are of inferior quality and has no demand out side Pakistan other than the poor Pakistani citizens

  • It’s wonderful to have such brilliant minds creating advanced hardware. However, unfortunately, the chips are still imported. What about the software? We still rely on Google, a company that has been fined by its own country for data violations. When will we be smart enough to stop using spyware in our phones? The companies are doing well, which is good, but their policies are concerning and somewhat unethical.
