Solar Panels Worth Millions Stolen From Punjab Govt Schools

An audit report presented to the Punjab Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee-III revealed that solar panels valued at more than Rs .6.5 million were stolen from 50 schools in Rajanpur district during 2022–23.

The committee voiced serious concern over the incidents and instructed that police investigations be carried out across the province, warning that similar thefts may have occurred in other districts as well.

Committee member Tanveer Aslam Malik urged that strict directives be issued to district police officers in the affected areas.

He further pressed for a comprehensive record of the schools targeted and clarification on whether any of the stolen panels had been recovered.

Officials from the Education Department confirmed that police cases had been filed in connection with the thefts.

However, the Audit Department pointed out that local education authorities had failed to ensure the security of the solar panels.
