The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has cautioned residents and travellers about the risk of landslides in Murree, Galiyat, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and other hilly areas as strong monsoon currents continue to grip the country.
In an advisory issued on Sunday, the PMD said torrential rains are likely to persist until September 9, which could trigger landslides leading to road closures in Murree and Galiyat. The department also forecast widespread rain-thunderstorms, with some spells expected to be very heavy.
The PMD further warned of urban flooding, flash floods, and waterlogging in several regions. It urged citizens, particularly tourists, to avoid unnecessary travel to vulnerable locations and remain alert to weather updates.
Authorities have also advised caution, noting that heavy downpours, windstorms, and lightning may damage weak structures such as mud-houses, electric poles, billboards, and solar panels.
Officials said relevant departments are on high alert, while locals in at-risk areas have been asked to take precautionary measures.
