The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) sealed Saeed Book Bank on Tuesday, one of Islamabad’s most iconic and biggest bookstores, over allegations of tax evasion.
The action was taken by Deputy Commissioner RTO Islamabad, Awais Ishaque, citing the store’s failure to integrate its Point of Sales (POS) system with the FBR, a mandatory requirement under tax regulations.
The move is part of the FBR’s aggressive nationwide crackdown on businesses accused of bypassing tax compliance measures. Saeed Book Bank, a major establishment in the capital known for its extensive collection of books, is now under investigation for non-compliance with POS integration rules.
The FBR has been intensifying efforts to ensure businesses across the country adhere to tax regulations, particularly the integration of POS systems, which allows real-time monitoring of sales and tax collection.

Government of Pakistan should make sure that any body who is entering into business whether sitting on a foot path or it is hand card trolley or shop or sitting up a small / large workshop / industry must register it self with FBR and get a registration certificate and NOC. It must be registered with the local municipality as well to follow up with the taxes and shops registration with it. Government will be responsible to provide the POS. No cash is to be accepted and all payment transactions is to be carried through debt/credit cards. this will keep things clear. When there is well then there is a way if government is serious about it. First it has to start with its self the big corrupt whales and sharks then come to the small fishes.
