Pakistan Takes Over SCO-RATS Leadership for 2025–26

Pakistan formally assumed the chairmanship of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (SCO-RATS) for the term 2025–26 on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the Foreign Office spokesperson, this development reflects the trust and confidence of SCO member states in Pakistan’s role and contributions toward regional security, particularly in counterterrorism.

As chair of SCO-RATS, Pakistan will focus on enhancing regional cooperation to address terrorism, guided by the “Shanghai Spirit” of mutual trust, equality, and shared responsibility. The country is set to organize a series of events and activities covering areas such as cyber counterterrorism, information security, border management, combating terror financing, and capacity-building initiatives.

“Pakistan, as a frontline state in the fight against terrorism, has made unmatched sacrifices to protect not only its citizens but also regional and global peace,” the spokesperson added.

The Foreign Office further highlighted that Pakistan, as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for 2025–26, has been given significant responsibilities in counterterrorism and related fields.

Reaffirming its commitment, Pakistan pledged to continue working closely with international and regional partners to strengthen collective action against terrorism, in line with SCO principles, international law, and the UN Charter.
