The Punjab government has launched a modern skills development initiative across the province’s prisons, designed to equip inmates with technical training and certifications.
An agreement was formally signed between the Punjab Vocational Training Council (PVTC) and the Prisons Department to implement the program.
According to the Punjab Home Secretary, the project seeks to transform prisoners into productive members of society by providing them with practical skills. Training will cover a wide range of fields, including electrical machinery, mobile phone repair, stitching and embroidery, computer literacy, auto mechanics, air conditioning repair, plumbing, and other technical trades. PVTC will also deploy qualified instructors to prisons for hands-on teaching.
The Home Secretary added that inmates who complete the courses and pass examinations will be awarded official certificates. These credentials, he said, will help prisoners secure dignified employment opportunities upon their reentry into society.
