PDMA Announces End of Most Destructive Monsoon Spell Yet

The Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has announced the conclusion of the tenth and most damaging phase of this year’s monsoon season, offering a measure of relief to flood-affected areas, reported 24NewsHD on Wednesday.

In its latest update, PDMA confirmed that no major rainfall is forecast for the coming week, including the upper catchment zones of key rivers.

Despite this decline in rainfall, water levels across Punjab’s rivers remain dangerously high, with several points still facing severe or very severe flood conditions.

According to the authority, the Sutlej River at Ganda Singh Wala is flowing at 230,000 cusecs, while Head Sulemanki is recording 137,000 cusecs, both at high flood levels.

The Chenab River continues to pose challenges: Head Marala has a discharge of 62,000 cusecs, Khanki Headworks is under low flood with 98,000 cusecs, and Trimmu Headworks is witnessing heavy pressure at 250,000 cusecs.

The Panjnad River remains the most critical, with an exceptionally high flood situation as flows surge to 475,000 cusecs—the largest volume reported across the province.

Meanwhile, the Ravi River is also showing varied flood levels: Jassar is at 26,000 cusecs, Shahdara at 31,000 cusecs, Balloki Headworks is facing a moderate flood at 80,000 cusecs, and Sidhnai Headworks has touched a high flood level of 121,000 cusecs.

PDMA noted that with the weakening of the monsoon system and no significant rain expected upstream, further escalation in river flows is unlikely, though authorities remain on alert to safeguard lives and property.
