Rain flowing down from the roof house in rainy season
The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), warning of intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms across several districts between September 16 and 19, 2025.
According to the alert, districts including Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Swabi, Peshawar, and Kohat are likely to receive heavy downpours accompanied by strong winds.
The PDMA cautioned that the expected weather could lead to a rise in water levels in rivers and streams, raising the threat of flash floods. Mountainous districts such as Swat, Mansehra, Battagram, and Abbottabad have also been identified as high-risk zones for landslides.
Weak housing structures, electricity poles, billboards, and solar panels are also vulnerable to damage during the stormy conditions. Citizens have been urged to limit travel during this period, while tourists have been advised to avoid visiting hilly areas due to possible landslides.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed that monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea are moving into northern Pakistan, bringing chances of rain in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and various parts of Punjab between September 15 and 19.
Meanwhile, Sindh is expected to remain hot and dry, with cloudy intervals along coastal regions. Balochistan will likely experience humid and partly cloudy weather.
The PDMA has activated its emergency helpline and directed district administrations to stay on high alert.
Earlier this week, the PMD also warned Sindh of a developing monsoon system that has intensified into a deep depression. It may bring more than 100mm of rain in the next 12 to 24 hours, with a strong possibility of urban flooding.
