PFF in Talks with LaLiga to Transform Football in Pakistan

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) is working to open new doors for the country’s football ambitions through a collaboration with Spain’s LaLiga. PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani recently held high-level talks with senior LaLiga officials in Spain to explore this promising avenue.

The meeting, supported by the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme (PMYP) and the Government of Pakistan, focused on collaboration in youth football, women’s football, domestic league structures, and mentorship programs for coaches. Mr. Juan Florit Zapata, Head of LaLiga Football Development, led the Spanish delegation, while Pakistan’s Ambassador to Spain and Andorra, H.E. Zahoor Ahmed, was also in attendance.

LaLiga officials reported expressed strong interest in Pakistan’s rapidly growing football ecosystem and identified opportunities for impactful partnerships that could nurture young talent and elevate professional standards across the sport in the country.

PFF President Mohsen Gilani voiced optimism that the collaboration between PFF and LaLiga could reshape the future of Pakistani football. “This partnership is a step forward in raising football standards in Pakistan, offering our players, coaches, and women athletes exposure to global best practices,” Gilani remarked.

The initiative comes at a time when football in Pakistan is seeking stronger international linkages to develop infrastructure and talent pathways. PFF has already explored other avenues in its effort to bring the national team up to international standards. While the senior side continues to rely on established diaspora players to fill key roles, the federation’s push to build a robust youth system could yield long-term benefits.

With LaLiga’s expertise in managing one of the world’s most competitive leagues, the collaboration is expected to inspire confidence and unlock sustainable growth opportunities for Pakistani football.
