In an extensive operation against electricity theft, the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) has identified 5,929 cases of power theft and imposed penalties worth Rs. 503.4 million. The campaign, launched in collaboration with law enforcement, also resulted in the arrest of 2,950 offenders.
Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood, Chief Executive Engineer of IESCO, said the anti-theft initiative—rolled out in 2023 under the directives of the Federal Government and the Ministry of Energy (Power Division)—has so far inspected over 2.8 million electricity meters across all categories of consumers.
He emphasized that IESCO is taking strict action against electricity theft, describing it as a “national crime and a sin” that harms both the country’s economy and public welfare. Mahmood warned that those involved in such practices will find “no room within the IESCO region.”
Acknowledging the dedication of IESCO’s operations, testing, metering, and surveillance teams, he urged them to maintain their momentum and remain firm against all external pressures.
The IESCO chief also called upon the public to cooperate by reporting incidents of electricity theft. Complaints can be registered with local Sub-Divisional Officers (SDOs), through the helpline 118, or via the Central Complaint and Monitoring Cell at 051-9252933.
