Lahore Traffic Police Crack Down on Overcrowded School Vans and Rickshaws

The City Traffic Police Lahore has launched a strict campaign against the overloading of children in school vans and rickshaws. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Dr. Athar Waheed has directed immediate action against vehicles carrying more than the permitted number of students.

The CTO emphasized that the safety of children cannot be compromised and warned that endangering young lives through overcrowding will not be tolerated. He instructed all SPs and DSPs to take firm measures against such violations.

To raise awareness, the Education Wing is briefing van drivers outside schools on road safety and child protection. Meanwhile, additional traffic personnel have been stationed at educational institutions during closing hours to monitor compliance and prevent breaches on the spot.

Dr. Waheed further clarified that practices such as children standing on roofs or footboards of vehicles pose serious risks and will be strictly prohibited. He ordered that not only should vehicles be stopped, but FIRs must also be registered against violators.

Appealing to the public, the CTO urged citizens to follow traffic laws, stressing that adherence to rules is essential for safeguarding lives.
