Lahore CTO Orders Crackdown on Illegal Driving Schools

Lahore Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Syed Abdul Rahim Shirazi has ordered an immediate crackdown on illegal and unregistered driving schools across the city, warning that no private driving school will be allowed to operate without registration and approval from the relevant authority.

According to the City Traffic Police Lahore (CTPL), the CTO directed enforcement teams to take action against institutions operating in violation of the law and instructed all driving schools to comply with Rule 23 of the Motor Vehicles Rules, 1969, which governs their registration and operation.

The CTPL said only driving schools that meet the prescribed legal requirements will qualify for registration. Each registered school must have dual-control training vehicles, proper classrooms, a suitable training facility, and certified driving instructors.

The CTO also directed registered driving schools to charge only the approved fee and warned that authorities would take legal action against any institution found overcharging or collecting unauthorized fees.

He said the CTPL aims to provide high-quality driving education that meets international standards, enabling new drivers to learn traffic laws and helping reduce road accidents.

The CTO urged citizens to seek training only from registered driving schools and report any illegal or unregistered institutions to the CTPL. He said the department will continue enforcing traffic laws and taking action against illegal driving schools to promote safer roads and protect lives and property.
