Train Service Suspended in Karachi

Pakistan Railways suspended train services from Karachi after 17 wagons of a freight train derailed near Wahab Shah railway station in Matiari district, blocking both the up and down tracks on the main railway route through Sindh.

According to officials, the damaged section could remain closed for up to 24 hours as restoration teams are working to clear the wagons and repair the tracks.

The coal hopper train was traveling from Karachi to Yousafwala when it derailed near the railway station. No casualties were initially reported.

The accident caused extensive damage to the railway line, with the tracks breaking at several points. Officials said the scale of the damage was slowing restoration work.

Two relief trains, along with railway engineering and rescue teams, have reached the site. The teams are working to remove the derailed wagons, repair the damaged sections, and reopen both the up and down tracks.

The disruption affected several passenger trains across Sindh. The Karakoram Express was stopped at Hyderabad station, the Allama Iqbal Express at Kotri station, and the Pakistan Express at Landhi station.

The Tezgam Express was held at Drigh Road station, while the Millat Express and Fareed Express were stopped at Cantt station.

Other trains were also stopped at Tando Adam, Hyderabad, Karachi, Rohri, and several other railway stations following the derailment.

Railway teams are continuing efforts to clear the tracks and resume train operations.
