NADRA to Introduce Face Recognition for Elderly Facing Fingerprint Issues

NADRA spokesperson Shabbahat Ali has announced that the authority is set to launch facial recognition technology for elderly citizens who encounter problems with fingerprint verification.

Speaking on the Geo News program Geo Pakistan, he emphasized that not registering a child at birth deprives them of their fundamental rights. For individuals under 18, NADRA issues a Juvenile Card, which remains valid until they reach adulthood.

Explaining the requirements, he said that for a child’s ID card, the presence of at least one parent’s CNIC is mandatory, even if the other parent is absent for any reason.

The spokesperson further revealed that Karachi currently has 359 counters across NADRA centers, with plans to increase this number to improve services. He reiterated that the introduction of face recognition will particularly benefit senior citizens whose fingerprints are difficult to capture due to age.

Additionally, he clarified that in the case of divorce, obtaining a certificate from the Union Council is a requirement.
