Net Metering Units Jump 124% in July 2025

Pakistan’s net metering units rose 124% year-on-year in July 2025, reflecting a surge in solar adoption as households and businesses responded to higher power tariffs and the expiry of temporary relief measures earlier in the year, according to NEPRA data compiled by Arif Habib Limited.

Net metering contributed 115 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in July, raising its share in total generation by 47 basis points compared with the same month last year.

On a month-on-month basis, however, net metering units fell 19%, pointing to seasonal variations in solar output. The overall decline in July’s electricity generation stood at 5.1% year-on-year.

NEPRA projects power demand to expand by 2.8% in fiscal year 2025, suggesting continued reliance on grid supply even as net metering plays a growing role in meeting the country’s energy needs.

  • Govt. should realise only one thing that solar energy is good for the people and for the country in the long term, please don’t listen to so called experts who deliberately confuse both Govt. and public that it will hit the Grid electricity or past agreements or collections in revenue, rather Motivate public for solar energy and wind turbine near the coastal areas with economical options.

    • They know its good but how they will pay the unused electricity cost to ipps? And what about remaining below average household? How they’re going to pay the expensive units?

There should be extensive policy regarding the reminders public still tied to grid.

  • So govt is getting cheaper electricity from the people

Where is haramin sharif. He claimed we’ll get kala bagh for 20 years. Pakistan since electrical issue without his worthless existence

  • ghatya K-electric walo ne net metering itni difficult kerdi hai falto mein ke log without net metering solar panels use ker rahay hain aur bohat se units zaya ho rahay hain. K-Electric is a big fraud company.

Ye konsi shart hai ke sirf 3 phase walay hi laga saktay hain aur ongrid ho battery na ho waghaira waghaira. Units milnay chahiay unko proper chahay customer ne jo system lagaya ho. Safety check karein aur falto ki panchayat hatana chahiay but wo chahtay hain awam K-electric se hi falto mehangi bijli lein

  • Experience in Pak shows that public sector industries/utilities are always a failure adding to government inefficiency. It’s good govt stays out of providing goods and services. It should play only as regulator.

  • This is a good sign that solar power utilisation by the public is on the rise. It not only reduces the burden on the national grid, but also makes people less dependent on the national grid along with financial savings!

  • It’s scame by govt. and Wapda officials against solar consumers. Wapda officials dwants destruction of solar policy because of corruption.
Wapda Official’s decresae price of Solar units 10 rupes will be given to consumers by govt. but govt. Unit sale price is 35 rupees per unit.
However Wapda officers don’t want the success of solar system due to huge corruption.
