The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced that the upcoming MDCAT exam for admission to medical and dental colleges will be held strictly based on domicile. Students will be required to appear in the province linked to their domicile and will not be permitted to sit for the test elsewhere, according to media reports.
To implement this decision, universities across the four provinces and Islamabad have been designated as exam centers. These include IBA Sukkur, Bolan University of Medical and Health Sciences in Quetta, and Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU) in Islamabad.
A special test center in Islamabad will accommodate candidates from Sindh and Balochistan. Meanwhile, applicants from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will appear at their respective provincial universities. At SZABMU, students from Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and all provinces may also take the exam, though seats will be allocated according to their provincial quotas.
PMDC has made it clear that a valid domicile of the concerned province will be mandatory for admission to medical and dental institutions. Additionally, dedicated seats remain reserved for candidates from Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Council also revised the MDCAT schedule in response to the recent flooding across the country. Initially planned for October 5, 2025, the exam will now take place on Sunday, October 26, 2025, following the directive of Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal.
