Govt Employees Given Deadline to Get Driving Licenses

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) on Wednesday launched a special campaign to help government employees secure valid driving licenses. The drive, which will run from September 17 to 26, is intended to provide support at traffic offices as well as through mobile facilitation vans.

Officials said that after September 26, any government employee found driving without a valid license would face strict legal action. Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Capt. (retd) Hamzah Humayun explained that during operations against illegal parking at Secretariat Blocks, authorities discovered that many employees were operating vehicles and motorcycles without licenses.

He stressed that accountability should begin with government workers themselves before enforcing laws on the general public. The ITP has directed its offices and resources to prioritize license issuance until the campaign deadline.

However, some employees voiced concerns over the short timeframe. Hassan Mahmood, a federal worker, said it would be difficult to issue licenses to thousands of employees across the capital in just nine days. Another employee, Nadeem, reported long waits at traffic offices and questioned how the target would be achieved within the period.

The CTO urged employees to cooperate and obtain licenses promptly, warning that no exceptions would be made after the deadline.
