In an effort to safeguard biodiversity, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Wildlife Department has imposed a comprehensive ban on hunting across 57 dams, lakes, rivers, ponds, and barrages in the province. The restriction will remain in force until December 2025.
According to the department’s notification, hunting is strictly prohibited in these 57 water bodies, and violators will face stern action. Hunting has been limited to specific designated sites only, while activities carried out before sunrise or after sunset have been declared unlawful.
The Wildlife Department has also rolled out fresh rules to regulate hunting methods. The use of electronic devices or call birds to attract prey has been banned. Licensed hunters may hunt no more than five waterfowl in a single day.
Revised licensing fees have been introduced for duck hunting. The fee for keeping a duck-hunting dog has been fixed at Rs1,500 annually, while hunters will be required to pay Rs500 per day for the use of specialized duck-hunting firearms.
Officials emphasized that these measures are designed to conserve KP’s diverse wildlife and prevent overhunting of waterfowl species. They added that the new policy supports sustainable hunting practices aligned with international conservation standards.
