Pakistan Lodges Official Complaint to ICC for Fakhar Zaman’s Dismissal Against India

The bad blood between Pakistan and India during the 2025 Asia Cup shows no signs of fading, with reports claiming that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken issue with how Fakhar Zaman was given out in Sunday’s clash.

According to sources, Pakistan’s team management has lodged a formal complaint with the International Cricket Council (ICC) over the dismissal.

The left-hander was controversially adjudged out by third umpire Ruchira Palliyaguruge in the third over of the match. Fakhar edged the third ball of the over to Sanju Samson, who collected it low and claimed the catch. The decision was referred to the third umpire, who upheld the call and gave Fakhar out despite inconclusive replays that many felt did not provide enough evidence to support the decision.

Fakhar Zaman, himself, appeared visibly animated over the decision as he walked back to the dugout while India celebrated.

The incident sparked an immediate reaction on social media, where former cricketers and fans questioned the reliability of the technology used and the judgment of the TV umpire. The backlash reflected growing frustration among Pakistani supporters, many of whom felt their team had been unfairly treated.

This isn’t the first time Pakistan has raised concerns about umpiring standards in high-profile matches, especially against traditional rivals. The timing of Fakhar’s dismissal, just as he was settling in, only added fuel to the controversy and led many to wonder whether the match might have played out differently had the decision gone the other way.

Pakistan’s team management has now acted, officially filing a protest with the ICC. This marks the second time the PCB has approached the ICC regarding officiating in matches against India during this Asia Cup, having previously raised concerns about match referee Andy Pycroft after the first game.

As the ICC reviews the complaint, Pakistan’s management has made it clear that they expect a transparent explanation. For now, Fakhar’s dismissal remains one of the most talked-about moments of the tournament, once again showing how a single decision can spark intense debate in cricket’s fiercest rivalry.

With a possible third meeting still on the horizon, tensions between the two sides continue to build.
