The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) announced that more than 70 percent of work on the Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) has been completed, calling the project a major step toward reshaping mobility and economic activity in the twin cities.
The project includes plans for logistics and education centers, a health city, dry port, business hubs, industrial zones, transport terminals, wholesale markets, recreational parks, and residential communities along the corridor.
At a recent meeting on Ring Road Economic Zones, chaired by RDA Director General Kinza Murtaza, officials emphasized the project’s expected impact on reducing traffic congestion in Rawalpindi and Islamabad, while also improving environmental conditions.
Murtaza said the initiative would boost the regional economy, create jobs, and provide better civic facilities, emphasizing that construction was progressing quickly.
OIC Senior Adviser Dr. Shahid Mahmood said the project was long overdue and would serve as a catalyst for growth, particularly in Rawalpindi’s southwestern areas. He urged that the planned Special Economic Zones be backed by modern urban planning and green building standards to avoid future encroachments.
Former ambassador Naghmana Hashmi added that the road would enhance economic linkages and transport efficiency. Senior RDA officials also attended the meeting.
