Sindh Launches Welfare Cards for Workers

The Sindh government has rolled out a comprehensive welfare package for industrial workers through the newly launched Workers’ Welfare Card.

Labour Secretary Rafiq Qureshi stated that under this initiative, workers will be covered by accident health insurance of up to Rs. 700,000, in addition to receiving 10,000 e-motorcycles, sewing machines, and other facilities.

Calling it a “new and brighter chapter” for the labour community, Qureshi emphasized that Sindh is the first province to introduce accident insurance of this scale, which will be applicable in over 270 hospitals nationwide.

He further announced that 10,000 e-motorcycles would be allocated specifically for women and minority workers in industries, highlighting the program’s role in both improving livelihoods and supporting environmental sustainability.

As part of efforts to economically empower women, the distribution of sewing machines has also been included in the scheme.

Qureshi added that the Welfare Card would simplify access to multiple facilities such as marriage and death grants, sparing workers from standing in long queues.

He stressed that any exploitation of labour would not be tolerated and warned industries of strict action if they failed to register workers. He also urged employees to be aware of their rights and ensure they are included in the welfare system.
