A fire erupted in a residential building near the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai’s Al Barsha area on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene within six minutes after receiving a report at 2 p.m., according to the Dubai Media Office. The fire was quickly contained, and no injuries were reported.
“Dubai Civil Defence teams have successfully contained a fire that broke out in a residential building in Al Barsha today,” the agency announced on X.
“Firefighting teams arrived on-site within six minutes of the report and immediately initiated evacuation procedures to ensure the safety of all residents. There have been no casualties. The site will be handed over to relevant authorities once cooling operations are completed.”
To aid in extinguishing the flames, Dubai Civil Defence deployed Shaheen drones, equipped with firefighting capabilities. These advanced drones, designed for high-rise fires up to 200 meters tall, feature a 1,200-litre tank for water and foam, providing swift and effective aerial support.

In April, the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (Ncema) predicted that drone use in firefighting would rise significantly, with drones expected to play a critical role in disaster response. By 2028, drone use is expected to increase twenty-fold, with AI supporting 70 percent of emergency decision-making by 2030, according to Dr. Saif Al Dhaheri, director of Ncema’s National Operations Centre.
Tuesday’s fire marks the latest in a series of incidents in the densely populated Al Barsha area over the past year.
In May, emergency crews responded to a gas leak-induced blaze at a restaurant near the Mall of the Emirates. Last December, a fire broke out in an eight-story building, prompting residents to alert neighbors after the fire alarms failed. No injuries were reported, though some residents were relocated to a nearby hotel.
This follows a similar incident last October, when an apartment building was evacuated in the early morning hours due to a fire.
