Islamic Ideology Council Urges Public to Avoid This Haram Insulin

The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has advised people to avoid using insulin made with ingredients from pigs when halal alternatives are available. The guidance came during the council’s 243rd meeting, held on September 24, 2025, where members also stressed the need for new legislation to deal with the matter.

During the session, the council discussed the use of insulin that contains pig-derived substances. Members highlighted that while animal-based insulin was once common, modern insulin is mostly produced in laboratories through genetic engineering.

This synthetic human insulin and its analogues are considered safer, more reliable, and less likely to trigger immune reactions compared to the older versions that were made from pig (porcine) or cattle (bovine) pancreas.

The meeting was chaired by Dr. Muhammad Raghib Hussain Naeemi, Chairman of the CII. Other participants included Justice (R) Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, Dr. Abdul Ghafur Rashid, Sahibzada Pir Khalid Sultan Qadri, Advocate Muhammad Jalaluddin, Allama Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mehmood Ashrafi, Malik Allah Bakhsh Kilyar, Justice (R) Altaf Ibrahim Hussain Qureshi, Maulana Pir Shamsur Rahman Mashhadi, Allama Muhammad Yousaf Awan, Allama Syed Iftikhar Hussain Naqvi, Professor Dr. Mufti Intikhab Ahmad, Allama Rana Muhammad Shafiq Khan Pasroori, Sahibzada Syed Saeed ul Hassan Shah, Sahibzada Hafiz Muhammad Amjad, Mrs. Fareeda Rahim, and Barrister Syed Atiqur Rehman Shah Bukhari.
