Punjab Chief Minister Mariyam Nawaz has extended the deadline for applying to the provincial Honhaar Merit-Based Scholarship Program, setting the new date as October 26, 2025.
The decision was taken in response to the recent floods that have disrupted educational activities across several districts of the province.
According to the Punjab Higher Education Commission (PHEC), the scholarship program is aimed at reducing the financial burden on parents and ensuring that deserving students can continue their education without interruption.
The initiative also seeks to safeguard the academic process during natural calamities, helping talented students remain focused on their studies despite economic or environmental challenges.
Under the Honhaar Scholarship Program, the Punjab government has announced around 30,000 scholarships for undergraduate students.
These scholarships cover full tuition fees in public sector universities and colleges. Students from families with limited income, especially those affected by floods, are being encouraged to apply.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the scholarship, students must meet the following conditions:
- Possess a Punjab domicile (some students from other provinces enrolled in selected institutions may also be eligible).
- Belong to families with a monthly household income of less than Rs. 300,000–350,000.
- Have achieved at least 60–70% marks in intermediate examinations (FA/FSc/ICS or equivalent).
- Be currently enrolled in a public sector university or college in Punjab.
- Not already be receiving a similar fully funded merit-based or need-based scholarship.
In certain disciplines such as medicine and dentistry, only students from the 2nd to 5th year are eligible. Similar semester-based criteria apply to other degree programs.
Application Process
The application process is entirely online. Students must follow these steps:
