The Punjab government will launch 80 electric buses in Rawalpindi by the middle of October, introducing a new public transport system aimed at reducing pollution and easing urban congestion.
Rawalpindi Deputy Commissioner Dr. Hassan Waqar Cheema confirmed that the buses will operate on 10 newly designated routes covering 86 kilometers. The system will be linked to Islamabad’s transport network, allowing residents of the twin cities to travel seamlessly.
A new bus depot is being constructed on 28 kanals of land along Peshawar Road, with capacity for up to 100 buses. The initiative is part of Punjab’s Annual Development Programme 2025–26, which also includes building urban bus depots with allied infrastructure.
Officials said that the electric bus service is designed to provide modern transport facilities to underserved areas not currently covered by the Metro Bus system.

Authorities said the project will help modernize the city’s transport, reduce reliance on private vehicles, and cut emissions in the garrison city and cantonment areas.

Saddar to new airport route must be added because commuters traveling to this route face problems
The existing metro bus already covers saddar-new airports via islamabad.
we are urgently required electric bus service from 26 number motorway to ammar chowk chaklala so that our reliance on motor cycles and private cars or local vagons are stopped and a new climate freindly bus service with fast commute and accident-less serivice is provided to us. peshwar road is too busy road. please incl this route also in your plan. 26 number to ammar chowk chaklala cantt.
Unfortunately, there is no route for area between Rawat-Fauji Foundation-Morgah-Saddar. The railway Station bus could be extended till Rawat instead of High Court.

AOA, It is great facility for the residents of Rawalpindi & Islamabad. It will provide clean and hygienic environment to general public.which is a great program from Punjab government. What are the views of local administration regarding the volumetric adjustment of space occupied by these buses during operation in Rawalpindi due to small road infrastructure and turning space. However it is great achievement for the residents of local area.

It is very long awaited wish of G-15,F-15,G-16, G-16, G-17, Tarnol and allied many villages to be connected by even any type of convenience, who have to walk miles to reach any four wheels or bykea etc. Which is wastage of their time and energies.
It would be great blessings if they are provided some such families. Cities are expanding but no convince available. Poor people particularly government officials and daily wage worker would be much thankful for this kindness.
