Punjab Launches Cashless Fare System For Public Transport

Punjab has introduced a cashless payment system for public transport through the eTransit Punjab App and the T-Cash Card, allowing commuters to travel on metro and electric bus services without cash.

The Punjab Information Technology Board launched the initiative in collaboration with the Punjab Transport Department and the Punjab Mass Transit Authority.

Officials said the system will replace cash payments and physical tokens with digital transactions to make fare collection faster, safer and more convenient.

Passengers can now pay fares through the T-Cash Card or the eTransit Punjab mobile app under a unified digital platform. Officials said the move will reduce waiting times and improve the overall travel experience.

Separately, the Lahore Mass Transit Authority has phased out the old token and transit card system for the Orange Line Train, Speedo buses and Metro Bus. LMTA In-charge Uzair Shah said commuters can no longer use the previous cards and any unused balance will not be refunded.

He said passengers returning the old cards will only receive the Rs130 security deposit and should submit them at designated stations.

However, some commuters have complained about a lack of public notice and said staff are still asking them to recharge the discontinued cards.
