UAE Residents Must Now Meet New Pre-Requirements for Umrah Visa

Umrah service providers in the UAE are advising expat pilgrims to confirm their transport and accommodation before applying for visas, as Saudi Arabia introduces tighter regulations on pilgrim movement.

Stricter Checks at Airports

Travel operators explained that Saudi officials at Jeddah and Madinah airports are now closely verifying that pilgrims carry a valid Umrah visa, proof of hotel reservations, and pre-booked transport with licensed providers.

Transport Limited to Approved Options

Authorities have linked these new requirements to efforts to crack down on illegal taxis operating around airports and pilgrimage routes.

Only prepaid taxis booked through the official portal or tickets for the Haramain Express high-speed train are accepted as valid means of transport.

Streamlining Pilgrim Travel

Tour operators said the purpose of these rules is to create a smooth travel experience for pilgrims while ensuring service providers comply with Saudi law.

Although pilgrims themselves will not face penalties, operators risk fines and restrictions if their clients arrive without the necessary bookings.

Tourist Visa Not Accepted for Umrah

Operators also warned against attempting to use a tourist visa for religious purposes, stressing that pilgrims without an Umrah visa could be stopped from entering key sites.

Costs and Requirements

Currently, the price of an Umrah visa starts at Dh750, though the amount varies by nationality.

With the new system, transport and accommodation details must be submitted at the time of the visa application, ensuring that every pilgrim arrives with confirmed arrangements.

Advice for UAE Residents

For residents in the UAE planning their pilgrimage, operators recommend booking flights, hotels, and transport in advance when applying for the visa to avoid delays and complications.
