‘Bezubaan’ March in Lahore Demands Justice for Helpless Animals

Civil society organizations Jaandar and Faltoo Sey Paltoo, in collaboration with Environmental and Animal Rights Consultants Pakistan, are organizing the “Bezubaan March” at Faisal Chowk, opposite Chairing Cross in Lahore, to mark World Animal Day on October 4.

The event’s theme for 2025 is “Breach of Justice,” amid ongoing instances of dog culling in Pakistan, despite existing legal prohibitions and court rulings against the practice. Such killings undermine legal protections and weaken the enforcement of judicial directives.

We march because animals cannot speak for themselves. On this day, let us be their voices, and ensure that justice is upheld — in both law and practice.

The march seeks to highlight the importance of implementing the 2021 Animal Birth Control Policy, which provides a framework for humane management of stray dog populations through vaccination and sterilization. Organizers emphasize that this policy will provide a lawful alternative to culling while advancing public health and animal welfare objectives.

According to the organizers, the Bezubaan March is intended to spotlight public advocacy for the enforcement of animal welfare laws, which requires consistency and accountability. They encourage broad public participation to amplify the message that legal protections for animals should be upheld in practice as well as in law.

  • A very beautiful and noble idea. May Allah Bless the organisers and the participants and may Allah grant the heart which is compassionate to all fellow beings.
