Inspector General (IG) Sindh Police Ghulam Nabi Memon has announced hefty fines for driving without a valid license in the province.
Speaking at a ceremony in Karachi, the IG revealed that riding a motorcycle without a license will now carry a fine of Rs. 20,000, while driving a car without a license will incur a penalty of Rs. 30,000. For heavy vehicles, the fine has been fixed at Rs. 50,000.
Memon added that authorities had initially considered setting the penalty as high as Rs. 100,000 but the Sindh government advised against such a steep amount. He stressed that ensuring compliance with licensing rules is critical for improving the traffic system.
“The traffic system cannot be improved until we improve the driving license regime,” the IG said.
He further disclosed that nearly 300,000 people have obtained driving licenses online, reflecting progress in digitalization and accessibility of licensing services. The decision to sharply raise fines is part of ongoing efforts to enforce traffic laws more strictly across Sindh and curb the rising number of unlicensed drivers on the roads.
