We Finally Have Confirmation of an Apple Foldable Phone, from Samsung

Lee Cheong, president of Samsung Display, has reportedly confirmed that the company is preparing to begin mass production of foldable OLED panels for a North American client. While Cheong did not identify the client, it is widely believed that the order comes from Apple.

Reports suggest Apple is moving closer to launching its first foldable iPhone, possibly named the iPhone Fold, with production of key display components now underway. Samsung Display already supplies OLED screens for the iPhone, making it the most likely candidate to provide Apple with the technology for a foldable device.

Rumored Specifications

According to leaks, Apple’s foldable iPhone could feature a 5.5-inch cover display alongside a 7.8-inch folding internal screen. Instead of using Apple’s existing Face ID system, the device is rumored to adopt a side-mounted Touch ID sensor for authentication, similar to other Android foldables in the market.

The foldable iPhone is expected to debut in September 2026, potentially alongside the iPhone 18 series. However, industry insiders caution that Apple’s timeline could still change as development continues.

Early reports suggest that Apple’s first foldable iPhone could carry a premium price tag, possibly exceeding $2,000, putting it in line with the most expensive foldable smartphones currently on the market.
