Punjab Govt’s Patwari Suspended for Fake Flood Relief Survey

Authorities in Chiniot suspended a patwari after he was caught making fraudulent entries in the flood relief survey. Pakistan has been grappling with the effects of climate change for years, but this year’s floods proved to be among the most devastating.

Torrential rains, cloudbursts, and flash floods wreaked havoc across Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, leaving nearly 1,000 people dead, destroying crops on millions of acres, killing thousands of livestock, and sweeping away homes, shops, hotels, and public infrastructure.

As part of the recovery efforts, surveys are being conducted to determine compensation for the affected families. During this process in Tehsil Lalian, Chiniot, officials discovered that fake names were being entered into the list of flood victims.
