Dubai Warns Against QR Code Scams

Dubai Municipality has issued a warning to residents about the potential cybersecurity risks associated with scanning unverified QR codes, noting that such actions could lead to the theft of personal information, including passwords, bank details, and identity data.

In a public awareness video released through its official channels, the municipality outlined three essential safety measures:

  • Avoid entering personal or financial details on any website accessed through a QR code unless its authenticity is confirmed.
  • Ensure that the website link begins with “https://”, indicating a secure connection.

Refrain from scanning QR codes found on walls, posters, or other public surfaces without confirming their legitimacy.

The municipality explained that this campaign is part of its broader initiative to enhance digital literacy among community members and curb cybercrime, especially as fraudsters increasingly exploit modern technologies and digital communication tools to deceive users.
