Punjab to Launch Over 1,100 Electric Buses This Year

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz chaired a high-level review meeting to assess progress across eight major departments and issued several directives aimed at speeding up provincial development projects.

The chief minister ordered that 1,115 electric buses become operational across Punjab by December and directed Deputy Commissioners to fast-track the setup of charging stations.

She also approved a uniform design for bus stops, noting the growing public interest in electric transport. Maryam further approved the district-wise rollout schedule for the electric bus program and called for early work on the Super Autonomous Rapid Transit (SRT) project.

Reviewing the Housing and Urban Development Department, she noted that WASA had expanded to 19 cities within months, up from just five previously, and reaffirmed the goal of reaching 25 districts by the end of the year.

Over 5,000 water filtration plants are currently operational across Punjab. She instructed Housing Minister Bilal Yasin to personally inspect the plants, add them to Deputy Commissioners’ KPIs, and ensure clean bottled water reaches every household.

Maryam was informed that the Model Village Project had begun in 472 villages, featuring parks, paved streets, drainage systems, and improved sanitation. She also directed officials to formally launch the Placer Gold Project, ensuring its benefits reach the people of Punjab.
