The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued an order preventing the district administration from harassing naanbais (bread makers) regarding the enforcement of roti and naan price controls.
Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard the case, with Naanbai Association President Sajjad Abbasi and other representatives appearing in court. The district administration was represented by State Counsel Malik Abdul Rehman.
During the hearing, Sajjad Abbasi complained that despite prior court directives, officials continued to seal tandoors and impose fines on naanbais.
The state counsel, however, maintained that meetings had already taken place between the administration and the association — a claim that Abbasi denied, insisting that no such discussions were held.
Expressing concern over the conduct of the authorities, Justice Tahir adjourned the hearing and instructed the petitioner to personally deliver the court order to the Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Director of Food.
“You personally deliver the order — then we will see what happens next,” the judge remarked.
Earlier, the Muttahida Naanbai Roti Association of Punjab had rejected government directives to reduce the prices of roti and naan across the province.
