The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled six new infrastructure and traffic improvement projects launching this October to reduce congestion, improve road flow, and boost transport efficiency across Dubai.
The initiatives align with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, which aims to build a modern, sustainable transport system supporting the emirate’s long-term growth.
At the start of the month, the RTA opened a new route linking the Al Kifaf Development to the Zabeel Tunnel. The project included widening the tunnel’s internal section from one lane to two, doubling capacity and easing pressure on Sheikh Zayed Road and the 2nd of December Interchange while improving access to nearby districts.
The authority also completed traffic enhancements along Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street toward Al Khawaneej by adding a third lane, which has already improved movement and access for motorists and residents in the area.
Another completed project includes a new 300-metre bridge connecting Sheikh Zayed Road to Mall of the Emirates. The bridge, capable of handling 900 vehicles per hour, offers direct entry for traffic arriving from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali into the mall’s parking area.
Three more projects are now under construction and are expected to finish by the end of October. These include new truck rest areas along Emirates Road near Hind City, a cycling track in Al Jaddaf, and a new service road lane on Sheikh Zayed Road leading to Al Badaa Street, which will open on October 31.
The RTA said the new developments are part of its strategy to strengthen Dubai’s transport infrastructure, improve urban living standards, and promote sustainable mobility.
“Upgrading road networks is not just about easing traffic congestion,” the RTA stated. “It helps save time for commuters, increases efficiency, and enhances Dubai’s global standing in quality of life and connectivity.”
