Punjab’s first dust-free road, the 93-kilometer Multan-Vehari Road, will be completed by June 2026 under the provincial government’s infrastructure plan. The project aims to provide a cleaner, smoother, and more sustainable travel experience, marking a major step toward modernizing Punjab’s road network.
The development was shared during a special meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to review ongoing projects of the Communication and Works (C&W) Department and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA).
During the meeting, the chief minister approved the public-private partnership model for the construction, repair, and rehabilitation of five major roads across the province, with private institutions handling project execution. She also directed the digitalization of all toll plazas and the implementation of a one-app, one-system model across 38 electronic toll points, similar to the motorway network.
The chief minister announced a Rs40 billion saving achieved through e-tendering and instructed authorities to install solar-powered streetlights on all newly constructed roads.
She also approved beautification projects in Lahore, including the areas surrounding Railway Station, Misri Shah, Data Darbar, Ik Moria, and Do Moria Bridges. The plans include a mini train and fountain near the Railway Station to enhance the city’s landscape.
Officials informed that 54 bridges, 142 small bridges, and 858 roads damaged during recent floods have already been restored.
